This column’s topic had a curious beginning (not that it is the first one, by any means). It is centered around the attached close-up photo of my name tag on my Saddleback “Host” jacket.
About three issues ago, my column was focused on the great start Saddleback Ski Resort experienced (after the five-year hiatus) with new ownership from my perspective as a host answering the many questions arriving skiers had, and helping manage the unique base lodge skier use modifications created out of necessity by the Covid-19 pandemic.
That great start continues now as we enter March and some great spring skiing coming up, given the warmer temperatures. What has changed, as of about 3 weeks ago, is the line below my name. ....

Letter from the editor: I don't get out much | Lewiston Sun Journal


 
I’m embarrassed to say that the editor has not gotten outdoors as much as the editor would like to. The reason for my confession is that I am thinking that perhaps there are some readers who feel the same way and so can relate. I have a kind of guilty conscience about it, but it is what it is.
Is it because of COVID-19? No. Do I have the winter blues? No. I just plain haven’t. I’m glued to my computer day and night.
The last time I got out, I went to the library, picked up a book and my order of delicious (Patti Cerminara & family made) tomato sauce from the Rangeley Public Library fundraiser, and went straight back home. ....

Western Maine trails received $87,000 in grants with $30,000 granted to The Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust to improve wayfaring in the trust’s 36 miles of trails. Trailhead signs and trail markers will be improved and an in-town trail between Rangeley’s Lakeside Park and the Rangeley Public Library will be constructed.
“Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust has conserved more than 14,000 acres in the region for public access and the wayfinding system will be critical to keeping access safe and educational,” David Miller, executive director of The Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust, said.
The Maine State Fire Marshal’s office released a report the first week of July that included several first-hand accounts of the Sept. 16, 2019, LEAP Inc. building explosion in Farmington.
