Attack on Strabane teenager described as 'sickening thuggery' - Highland Radio


A Strabane Councillor believes someone will be seriously injured or worse unless anti social behaviour in the town is brought under control.
It comes after a 17 year old girl was assaulted in The Meadows area of the town on Friday night.
A video has been circulating on social media depicting the incident, and showing the victim lying unconscious.
A 17 year old girl and an 18 year old male were arrested on suspicion of offences but have since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Councillor Raymond Barr has described Friday s attack as sickening thuggery: ....

Dog racing set to return to Lifford


Dog racing set to return to Lifford
DOG racing is to return to Lifford following the purchase by a business syndicate of the local greyhound stadium.
Made up of buyers from England and Ireland, the group says it hopes to have the track open again by the end of the summer.
The surprise announcement comes 18 months after the stadium was shut by long-time owner Hugh Duffy and his family.

The Duffys ran the Lifford track for 19 years and in its heyday it drew ‘doggy men’ from all over the UK and Ireland.
That came to an end in August 2019 though with the owners blaming dwindling prize money and a lack of support from the Irish Greyhound Board. ....

This is the view of local councillor, Raymond Barr, following reports of increasingly large crowds flocking to the recently refurbished Strabane amenity.
Last summer the towpath was transformed as part of a major improvement scheme. Prior to the works it was estimated that as many as 400 people used the facility for walking and cycling every day. ....
