Did you know that 7:00 AM, noon and 5:30 PM are the times we have our greatest demands for electricity? The 7:00 AM demand lasts about 2.5 hours while the noon and 5:30 demands are about an hour-and-a-half each. When a demand spike is too high, our cost of electricity is higher. You can help ease demand by running washers, dryers and dishwashers at other times. Perhaps try running the dishwasher, clothes washer or dryer over night. Every little bit helps, thank you. ....

“The NORTH DAKOTA WINTER SHOW will be March 10-14. FREE ENTRANCE to the building.
A note from “the power outage” we incurred last month. There were a number of events creating the outage from supplementary power sources to timely notifications and they are being researched through the federal level. Though it was a “perfect storm”, knowledge gained from this experience will help going forward. “Never let a good crisis go to waste”.
Missouri River Energy Services, our supplier, successfully hedged the market purchasing energy and fuel prior to the weather event. Those purchases will help stabilize our current rates.
We had good ice on the river a few days ago, though now runoff has caused substantial amounts of water on top and changes in currents may have caused thinning ice in places. Please be careful. ICE always has a “degree of danger” ....

“Well, “How about our WEATHER”? One thing, if one wants some fresh air, it doesn’t take long to get it. The wind will eventually get “tired” at which time going outside will be tolerable.
Barnes County is doing well with COVID-19 numbers again this week; good job folks. We still must be aware of the “COVID Variance” strain that is out there and it is more contagious than the first one. We have had about 1200 – 1300 cases of the virus, which represents about 11% of our population. “Herd Immunity” needs about 75% plus so we are quite a way from that. To protect yourself and others, be vaccinated and continue the mitigation practices a bit longer. ....

The Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the City of Valley City, is hosting “For the Love of Local”. “For the Love of Local” is an initiative created with the intention of supporting local businesses in a way that also benefits the people of Valley City and surrounding areas. During this event, between February 6th, 2021 and April 30th, 2021, while supplies last. You will be able to purchase Chamber Bucks – and for every dollar you spend on Chamber Bucks you’ll be given a bonus of 25% in addition to the amount you purchase. Chamber Bucks can be used just like a check at all local businesses from February 6th to April 30th and at all Chamber Businesses during and continuing after this period.
