Keokuk, Ia- Police arrested two men following shots fired in Keokuk on Tuesday. TV station KHQA reports that Police were dispatched to the 1100 Block of Exchange street in Keokuk at about 9:34 AM Tuesday for a report of shots fired. A caller described a man placing his gun under the porch of a residence in the area. Police then went to the residence and arrested 21-year-old Samuel McCoy and 19-year-old Riley Jensen, both of Keokuk. Jensen was arrested on an unrelated warrant for Assault causing Bodily Injury. Mccoy fled but was eventually found and arrested. He was charged with Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon. He is being held at the Lee County jail. ....

After defeating Southern Illinois 7-2 Friday afternoon, the Cougars knocked off No. 15 Arizona State 9-8 Friday night at Alberta B. Farrington Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. ASU became the first national seed to be eliminated from the NCAA Tournament this season. Now BYU faces Virginia Tech in the regional final Saturday (4 p.m. MDT, ESPN3). The Cougars opened the 2021 season against ASU at Farrington Stadium and lost two games to the Sun Devils. BYU avenged those losses by rallying to beat ASU Friday. ....
BYU softball loses in NCAA tournament opener against Virginia Tech BYU softball was unable to build off an early lead, losing to Virginia Tech 5-2 in game one of the Tempe region at the NCAA Tournament Thursday evening. Despite taking the lead off of a Rylee Jensen home run, the Cougars were only able to muster up another run and two hits the rest of the game. BYU left seven on base, including having bases loaded in the top of the seventh with one out. Virginia Tech outhit BYU 12-3. Nine of the Hokies’ hits came in the second, third and fourth innings, where Virginia Tech scored all their runs. ....
Olympic overview: BYU Softball wins WCC title and honors seniors The BYU softball team won its 12th consecutive West Coast Conference championship with a three-game sweep at Santa Clara over the weekend. The softball and baseball teams both brought in weekly awards to complete this week’s BYU Olympic sports overview. Softball The sweep at Santa Clara gave BYU its 22nd win in the last 24 games and the WCC title gives BYU an automatic bid to its 16th-straight NCAA Tournament. Outfielder HannahJo Peterson was named WCC Player of the Week following the wins, her second of the year, and BYU’s 13th WCC weekly player award. Peterson had three home runs last week against Southern Utah and Santa Clara. ....
