New proposal in King County would give grocery store workers $4 per hour in hazard pay

A new proposal introduced in King County would give some grocery store workers in unincorporated areas of the county an extra $4 per hour in hazard pay throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
The proposal comes a few weeks after the Seattle City Council passed an ordinance requiring large grocery stores in the city to give workers hazard pay.
“For the last year I have visited with, and thanked the checkers, stockers, butchers and deli workers at the grocery stores I shop. I have seen and heard their fatigue, and also their courage and dedication to their customers,” Councilmember Rod Dembowski, who drafted the legislation, said in a statement. ....

Maybe the politicians should fund it. The citizens are taxed enough, not like anything we vote for taxes on actually gets the funds we approve of. Paper shuffle “reallocate” game. Defund politicians, pay frontline workers.

Those people make an affordable living wage. Grocery store workers are making like 15$/hr it’s ok to give them extra and help them out.

A couple of weeks ago we went to Met Market and noticed a friendly girl (she says hello how are you when you walk by her) sign in hand stating the fact she is a “mom” needing money for food for her children, now again today she was there but I also recall seeing this same girl outside of the Roxbury Safeway about a year and half ago same language on sign… well what do you know we went to the WWV QFC 3 to 4 hours after our Met Mkt. visit this morning and there she was standing by the driveway into their parking lot… makes me wonder if she would put that much time and effort into finding a job she wouldn’t need to panhandle??? ....
