Kirksville Daily Express
Master plans for the North Park and Jaycee Park complexes have been updated by the Parks and Recreation Department, showing what the future holds for those areas.
A sizable expansion at North Park now has a bit of a blueprint in place.
Five soccer fields have been proposed for North Park along the northern and eastern undeveloped areas of the park. Additional parking lots will be constructed in those areas, along with a concession and restroom building.
Parks and Recreation Director Rodney Sadler said city staff members have met with the Northern Missouri Futbol Club about developing those soccer fields. The club has expressed interest in helping with the development of those fields.  ....

New Kirksville Aquatic Center finally opens

Kirksville has an open aquatic center once again.
After a voter-approved sales tax to fund the project and a lengthy design process where the financials were tested, construction began last February. Then a global pandemic began, parts of construction were delayed, materials arrived late, and the grand opening was pushed from Memorial Day weekend to June. And even the weather couldn’t say no to adding one more roadblock, with the ceremonial opening moved from June 26 to June 28.
But those are all in the rearview mirror now following a soft opening over the weekend and a ribbon-cutting on Monday night. Parks and Recreation Director Rodney Sadler thanked city staff members, construction workers and architects on Monday night. And after addressing those people, he thanked the citizens of Kirksville for supporting the project and remaining patient and welcomed them to the new Kirksville Aquatic Center. ....

Parks, Public Works projects get green light from City Council
Kirksville Daily Express
The Kirksville City Council approved a number of items as part of Monday’s meeting. Most of those items were centered on ongoing projects with the Public Works and Parks and Recreation departments.
Here’s a rundown of what was approved at the meeting.
Tower Lease agreement
The council approved a tower lease agreement with US Cellular, the second of three planned agreements between the city and cell phone corporations. One with AT&T was approved earlier this year.
These companies have used the old water tower to deliver signals. Since that water tower will be deconstructed, they have moved to different spaces. US Cellular will join AT&T, and eventually Verizon, on the Mark Twain Communications tower. ....
