The decision on the expulsion from Romania of the deputy military attaché with the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Bucharest has nothing to do with what is happening in other countries in the European Union, it is not part of a campaign, Prime Minister Florin Citu said on Monday, reports agerpres.
Regarding today s statement, I would not link it [the decision to expel the Russian deputy military attaché] to a campaign or a reaction in solidarity with what is happening in other countries. In Romania it was a decision taken, assumed and we moved on. It was a decision we are making and it has nothing to do with what is happening in other EU countries, Citu told TVR 1 when asked if Romania had joined the states that have reacted to Russia s actions and whether such measures will continue. ....

SEVERAL EASTERN EUROPEAN STATES announced plans to expel Russian diplomats this week, as Moscow declared an Italian diplomat
persona non grata in a tit-for-tat dispute with Rome over espionage allegations. Earlier this month, the Czech Republic expelled 18 Russian diplomats in protest against an explosion that totaled a remote munition depot in the east of the country, which Prague claims was part of a Russian intelligence operation.
The explosion, which occurred in October of 2014, killed two people and destroyed a munitions storage facility belonging to the Military Technical Institute of the Czech Ministry of Defense. Czech investigators recently concluded it was perpetrated by Unit 29155, a Russian elite spy outfit that operates under the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, commonly known as GRU. The Kremlin responded to the expulsions of its diplomats by ordering 20 Czech diplomats to leave Russia, and condemning Prague’s move as an � ....

Bucharest also summoned Russian Ambassador Valery Kuzmin to notify him of the decision made by the Romanian authorities.
The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to declare Alexei Grishaev, deputy military attache at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Bucharest, persona non grata.
In a press release published on Monday, the ministry explained that Grishaev s actions contravene the provisions of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations .
However, the authorities did not specify which activities they deemed as breaching the said convention.
The Russian ambassador to Bucharest, Valery Kuzmin, was summoned to the Romanian Foreign Ministry at the request of Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu to be notified of the decision, the press release concludes. ....
