There are now about 180 Broadband Connection Points (BCPs) operating in towns and villages in every county, says the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys, with many others being connected in the coming months.
These publicly-accessible sites provide free Wi-Fi internet connectivity in rural locations, including on many of the offshore islands, said the Minister, replying to a recent Dáil question from Cork South-West Social Democrats TD Holly Cairns. ....

The rollout of the long awaited national broadband network has begun for Laois, and it promises to give rural isolated premises better broadband than that in towns.
Two areas on the border of Laois are now seeing fibre cables being installed for a 500mb speedy service.
However it will be six years before all of rural Laois and Ireland are connected to the Government s heavily subsidised high speed internet service.

A small local community in Co Cork is pleading with billionaire businessman Elon Musk for help with poor broadband in the area.
A group of business owners in Rossmore outside Clonakilty say they want to be able to work from home but are being hindered by poor speeds.
They claim to have to travel to higher ground to get enough signal to send an email.
Rossmore residents are hopeful the Tesla founder can help them after he already pledged to provide reliable internet access to the Black Valley region in Co Kerry.
