Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 10 (ANI): After some Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders speculated about the resignation of Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, state Revenue Minster R Ashoka on Thursday said that the chair of the Chief Minister is "perfectly occupied."
"Chief Minister's chair is perfectly occupied already with our leader," he said.
The minister further stated, "The ones who considered themselves in the race of becoming Chief Minister are in a bus which has no fuel. Some are trying to reserve the Chief Minster's seat. They must understand that it's not vacant. They are trying to achieve something which is not possible."

BENGALURU: Karnataka Revenue Minister R Ashoka on Wednesday indicated that the state may go for unlocking in four to five phases after June 14, as the COVID-19 induced lockdown comes to an end.
"Keeping the number of deaths and new cases in mind and aimed at bringing down the COVID infections further, lockdown will not be relaxed at one go. Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Health Minister K Sudhakar and I have held detailed discussions with the Chief Minister in this regard," Ashoka said.

Karnataka revenue minister performs mass last rites of over 1,000 bodies

After waiting for more than two months, with no relatives coming to pick even the 'asthi' (Potful ash and bone remnants), Karnataka revenue minister, R. Ashoka has performed last rites of over 1,000 'Asthis' in triveni sangama in Srirangapattana here.
The revenue minister on Wednesday himself took the sankalpam (taking pledge) after hiring services of over a dozen priests led by chief priest Bhanu Prakash Sharma who led the last rites.
After performing the last rites, Ashoka tweeted saying that he was content in performing last rites of departed souls. "I did this to allay fears of relatives, who do not even come near crematoriums after the body is cremated. I direct deputy commissioners to perform last rites in all districts if the such Asthis have remained unclaimed for while," he said in his tweet.

It is a tradition in much of southern Karnataka to immerse the ashes of those who have been cremated in the river Cauvery. But one of the many sad fallouts of the Covid pandemic is that the ashes of many patients who died of the virus were not claimed by relatives from crematoriums.
Revenue minister R Ashoka on Wednesday immersed the ashes of over 500 such people in the river. He said, "Today, we are immersing ashes in the Cauvery river. It is considered holy and it will help reach heaven. 560 persons' ashes will be immersed in Cauvery today. The families of those who died, for various reasons, could not collect the ashes. They are going through difficult times. The government is sharing the pain with them and trying to step into the part of the family. It is an emotional issue for us all, brothers and sisters of Karnataka people. It is my duty as Revenue Minister to do this."
