State Rep. Jewell Jones, D-Inskter, is no longer an active volunteer police officer.
The 25-year-old, youngest-ever Michigan House representative was suspended from Inkster’s auxiliary police in response to his April 6 drunken driving arrest, department Police Chief William T. Riley III said. Jones is also accused of illegally having a firearm in a cupholder of his console while drunk.
The police chief said Jones’ suspension is in line with how any other auxiliary officer would be treated.
“If they’re arrested, anything of that nature, we would immediately suspend them from any type of service,” he said, “and we would wait to see what comes out of the investigation.” ....

KENT COUNTY, MI - State Rep. Bryan Posthumus was arrested Friday for suspicion of operating while intoxicated, according to a news release issued by a representative for the lawmaker.
Posthumus, R-Cannon Township, crashed his Jeep while leaving his farm in Oakfield Township Friday evening, according to the Saturday, May 1 release, going off the road, hitting a mailbox and then rolling over in Ada Township.
He was arrested and taken to a nearby hospital to evaluate potential injuries, then released that night pending an investigation, according to the release. ....

Michigan lawmaker acknowledges drinking problem after arrest
Lansing Michigan state Rep. Bryan Posthumus was arrested Friday on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated after he drove his Jeep off the road, according to a statement issued on his behalf.
A first-term lawmaker from west Michigan, Posthumus, R-Cannon Township, was taken to the hospital to be evaluated for possible injuries. His blood alcohol level at the Kent County Correctional Facility before going to the hospital was 0.13%, according to the statement released Saturday. Under Michigan law, the legal limit is 0.08%.
It is clear to me that I have a drinking problem, and I need help, Posthumus said. I am going to immediately begin attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and make AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) an important part of my life. I am grateful that no one else was injured because of my mistake. ....

Police arrested State Rep. Bryan Posthumus, R-Cannon Township, for operating while intoxicated after a rollover crash Friday evening.
According to a news release from Posthumus, he was leaving his family s farm in Oakfield Township when his Jeep went off the road. He hit a mailbox and his car rolled over.
The accident took place in Ada Township, which is about 15 minutes from Grand Rapids.
“I am deeply disappointed in myself for putting other people in jeopardy by driving after drinking alcohol, Posthumus said in the news release. There is no excuse for what happened, and I take full and complete responsibility for my actions.
