Nine-month-baby beaten by mother: Mother gives reasons for her actions

The mother of a baby was arrested in connection with a video circulating on social media showing a baby being brutally beaten.
Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana stated that the incident was reported from the Jaffna - Ariyale - Navaladi area.
The video shows the nine-month-old baby being beaten by a 24-year-old mother with a stick, then dragged into a room and beaten again with a stick, where the baby cries in agony.
The mother was arrested and the baby was taken into police custody when the Jaffna Police went to the house and conducted investigations into the video which was circulated on social media. ....

NSA Trilateral Secretariat established at NHQ

Reaffirmed strongly with the necessity of the continuation of National Security Adviser (NSA)-level meeting between India, Sri Lanka and Maldives, a secretariat for trilateral National Security Advisers on Maritime Security Cooperation was formed under the auspices of Secretary of Defence, General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne at the Navy Headquarters today (01st March 2021).
Based on an agreement reached at the 04th NSA -level trilateral meeting hosted in Colombo on 28th November 2020 with the attendance of defence chiefs of three participating countries, it was decided to establish a secretariat for the convenience of future conclaves.
Through NSA -level meetings, it is expected to pay concerns into the current maritime security environment in the region and discussed mutual cooperation in the areas of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, joint exercises and capacity building. Programme to earn targeted export earnings

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Trade have formulated a joint programme to earn targeted export earnings.
Accordingly, a meeting of the stakeholders of the Committee on Exporting Commodities was held at the Central Bank.
Speaking at the event Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena stated that the Export Development Plan should be properly maintained in the coming years.
The main objective is to increase exports of textiles and apparel, gems and jewellery, rubber and allied products, tea, coconut, seafood as well as spices.

Suraj Randiv and Chinthaka Jayasinghe, two former players of the Sri Lanka Cricket team, are currently working in Melbourne, Australia.
This is partnering with Transdev, a French company in Melbourne.
Randiv, who played in the 2011 World Cup final, represented Sri Lanka in 12 Tests, 31 ODIs and seven Twenty20 Internationals, taking 86 wickets.
Chinthaka Jayasinghe has played only 5 T20 matches for Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka s former skipper Angelo Mathews will be the cricket team s stand-in captain for the three-match Twenty20 series in West Indies after Dasun Shanaka was left stranded by a visa issue, the country s cricket board said.
Shanaka was named Sri Lanka s new Twenty20 captain last week but the 29-year-old could not board the flight that left with his teammates on Monday after failing to arrange a new transit visa to the United States.
Mathews was appointed by the national selectors as Dasun Shanaka, who was appointed as the T20 captain for the tour of West Indies, is yet to join the team owing to a delay in obtaining a U.S. transit visa, the Sri Lanka cricket said in a statement. ....
