Ports unions meet PM today

A special discussion will be held today (01) to resolve the issue regarding the handing over of the Eastern Terminal of the Colombo Port to India.
The discussion will be held between the Ports Trade Unions and the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa .
It is reported that the discussion will be held at 10.00 am at the Prime Minister s official residence in Wijerama.
Meanwhile, the Committee appointed by the Cabinet to look into the handing over of the Eastern Terminal to India met yesterday (31) afternoon.
The report containing the recommendations of the seven-member committee was handed over to the Minister in charge of the subject Rohitha Abeygunawardena last night. ....

The Hindu newspaper has reported many details about the two Sri Lankans who were recently arrested by the Police Narcotics Bureau of India with 100 kilos of heroin.
Following a failed attempt to eliminate a Sri Lankan drug enforcement inspector in May 2017, M.M.M. Nawas and Mohamed Afnas has now been arrested by the Indian Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for alleged role in an international drug trafficking racket. They entered India through the Rameswaram coast.
The two Sri Lankans eventually took refuge in the outskirts of Chennai. “Nawas is wanted for the attempted murder of the Sri Lankan inspector, Neomal Rangajeewa, who was seriously injured in the attack,”. ....

Train drivers pull out of Chinese carriages

Train drivers have decided to withdraw from running trains with Chinese carriages from today (01).
100 Chinese compartments were imported to Sri Lanka in 2009 and on several occasions train operations were disrupted due to problems with the brake system.
Secretary of the Railway Engine Drivers Association Indika Dodangoda stated that between 50 and 60 Chinese carriages are running daily and that they have decided to withdraw from the trains since they are also giving problems.
