Balfour Beatty increases rail worker pay offer after strike threat
Balfour Beatty has offered an increased pay rise to workers on its £1.5bn Network Rail contract, after they threatened to strike.
As previously reported, Balfour employees on the central rail system alliance – which covers development, design and delivery of track renewals and crossings, as well as associated infrastructure works across the London North West, London North East and East Midland routes – last week voted in favour of industrial action after not being given a pay rise in 2020.
Talks on their pay were repeatedly postponed during the pandemic.
Today the TSSA said the contractor has made an improved offer – of 2 per cent for 2020 to be backdated and paid in a lump sum. A further pay rise of 1.5 per cent with effect from 1 April 2021 has also been offered. ....

Balfour Beatty rail workers threaten strike action after ‘empty’ pay offer
The head of the TSSA union said strike action among Balfour Beatty workers on a £1.5bn Network Rail contract is “a certainty” – unless the contractor increases its offer of a pay rise.
Balfour employees on the central rail system alliance – which covers development, design and delivery of track renewals and crossings, as well as associated infrastructure works across the London North West, London North East and East Midland routes – have been offered a 2 per cent pay rise from April this year, but nothing in relation to the previous year. ....
