Shuffling of School Psychologists in Goleta District Causes Concern Among Parents

She said Goleta Union has 10 school psychologists, one for every school site, and that all of them are fully credentialed and well-trained. She said most of them have additional training and certifications, and all of them are entirely capable of providing services to any student.
Mental health professionals are trained to transition services between clinicians while maintaining a continuity of care, Lew said. GUSD has a unique commitment to the socio-emotional learning and mental well-being of our students.
She said Santa Barbara County has an average ratio of one school psychologist per 1,013 students, but in Goleta it s one school psyschologist per 330 students.  ....

Proposed UC Policy Would Require COVID-19 Vaccinations for Students, Faculty and Staff

For those who are unable to get the vaccine before returning to campus, the student health centers may be able to assist in finding a local resource for vaccinations, and faculty and staff will be advised on the process for providing vaccination information after the policy is finalized, according to the UC Office of the President.
The UC system is engaging the community in a discussion of the details of the new policy so that students, faculty and staff will have ample time to get the vaccine ahead of the fall term. UC Santa Barbara’s policy coordinator announced the beginning of the official 30-day review period on Sunday. ....

Goleta School Officials Warn Against Spring Break Travel, Tout COVID-19 Vaccinations for Staff

Lewis responded: We can always ask, but it s really up to people; people might choose not to be truthful.
After a pause, Mayer said, It s important for people to be responsible. It s really unfair to other students.
Lewis added: It s not fair to our students, but it s also not fair to our staff.
Speaking of staff, Lewis said that about 420 of the district s 760 employees have received COVID-19 vaccination doses. Of the total, 63 declined, 18 asked to delay their vaccinations and about 250 people have not responded to the offer for a vaccine.
We figure they probably don t want it, Lewis said. Pretty much any employee who wants the vaccine has been able to get vaccinated or gotten an appointment to be vaccinated. ....

Christina Llerena is SBCC's New EOPS/CARE and CalWORKS Director | School Zone

Llerena is seasoned in strengths-based social work; intrusive academic counseling, private and public servant leadership; and is an advocate of mental health services.  
She started teaching community college throughout San Mateo and Santa Clara counties in 2004, has worked as an instructor and counselor for First-Year Experience (FYE), and served as the former TRIO SSS director at West Valley College.
Through her combination of experiences, Llerena has developed experience in developing equity-driven initiatives and is passionate about supporting EOPS students.
Llerena said she is thrilled to join the SBCC community, quoting German theologian and philosopher Meister Eckhart: “Sometimes you just know it s time to start something new and trust in the magic of beginnings.” ....
