HARRISBURG, Pa. A community “Test Drive a School Bus” event on May 23 highlighted bus safety and the role of school bus drivers.
The event was put on by Rohrer Bus, a local school transportation company that provides busing for 20 districts around central and northeast Pennsylvania.
Community members could take a school bus out for a spin through an empty parking lot at one of five locations throughout Southcentral Pennsylvania. ....

After Monday’s announcement that Susquehanna Township School District will retire its Indian mascot and logo, one official says they will take as much time as needed to find a replacement.
School Board President Jesse Rawls, who announced the change during Monday’s school board meeting, said they don’t have a timeline in place to find something new.
He did say the community will be a part of the process as well as current students. A committee of school officials – including the superintendent, athletic director and school board members – will be at the core of the effort. ....

Dennis Harrsch (“Harrsch”), as a Staff Physician 2 for the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, failed to comply with Section 1104(a) of the Public Official and Employee Ethics Act (“Ethics Act”), 65 Pa.C.S. § 1104(a), when he failed to file a Statement of Financial Interests for calendar year 2018 with the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services.
2. This Commission hereby levies one maximum civil penalty against Harrsch at the rate of Twenty-Five Dollars ($25.00) per day for each day his Statement of Financial Interests for calendar year 2018 has remained delinquent, for a total civil penalty of Two Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($250.00).  Harrsch is ordered to pay said civil penalty in the total amount of $250.00 by no later than the thirtieth (30th) day after the mailing date of this Order, by forwa ....

Districts are required to submit their misconduct reports, both criminal and academic infractions, to the state every year. Reporting sometimes changes from year-to-year, but no changes were made last school year.
Last year, the top three criminal reasons why students were in trouble statewide were:
Possession, use, or sale of tobacco or vaping 8.34 percent
Fighting 8.14 percent
Minor altercation 5.42 percent
