A Tennessee panel voted to remove a bust of Confederate General and Klu Klux Klan Grand Wizard Nathan Bedford Forrest from the state Capitol, according to multiple reports.
The vote comes months after the state’s Capitol and Historical commissions first voted to remove the bust, according to WZTV. Thursday’s vote by the Tennessee State Building Commission was the final step needed for the statue to be removed.
Forrest was a slave trader and Confederate General, and later became an early leader of the klan. The bust was first unveiled in 1978, drawing protests from African Americans, according to The Tennessean. ....

A statute of a confederate general was removed from a city hall in Louisiana, according to multiple reports.
Video taken by The Daily Advertiser Saturday afternoon showed the statue of Gen. Alfred Mouton getting hoisted off of its base outside of the Lafayette City Hall as spectators cheered.
Photos of the removal were also shared to Twitter by KATC TV3. The news outlet said that a flag pole will be put in its place.

Residents gathered around a statue of a Confederate general cheered on Saturday as workers took the statue off its pedestal where it stood for 99 years in Louisiana.
On Friday, the United Daughters of the Confederacy signed a settlement agreement with the city of Lafayette to move the statue of Gen. Alfred Mouton. A hearing about the statue’s removal had been initially set for July 26.
“The Confederacy has surrendered,” said attorney Jerome Moroux to The Advocate. Moroux was tasked with representing the city and the 16 residents who wanted to see the statue gone. ....
