A CAR was intentionally driven into the shutters of a restaurant in East Kilbride and then set on fire. Police are investigating the wilful fire-raising at Pepe’s Piri Piri in Murray Square at 11.40pm on January 28. The blaze did not spread to the building and was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. Detective Constable Grant McKechnie of Police Scotland's Lanarkshire Division CID said: "This was a completely reckless act which could have had catastrophic consequences. “At the time of the incident a man was seen to exit the Honda car and run off towards Murray Road, where he may have entered a Mercedes car which then drove off towards The Queensway.

Gyms and hairdressers flouting Covid lockdown rules more than others, say police GYMS and hairdressers have been highlighted by police as being "particularly" guilty of breaking lockdown rules. Inspector Graeme McLaughlin of Bellshill police station singled out the two sectors as being among the most reported to police for flouting strict regulations on non-essential businesses. Many individuals have been fined and reported to the Procurator Fiscal, he said, claiming that many beauty and personal fitness firms were continuing to operate either from their homes or normal premises. The Lanarkshire cop added: "Officers in Lanarkshire Division continue to explain the regulations and encourage people to do the right thing.
