Supervisors let Lancaster Farm Sanctuary's permit stand after dispute over shared driveway


Lancaster Farm Sanctuary has been granted a reprieve — for now — from losing its permission to operate.
The owners of a neighboring farm, Cindi and Ed Hughes of Heritage Creek Farm Camp, have complained about increased traffic on a shared driveway lane off Milton Grove Road in a rural area of Mount Joy Township and asked the township to revoke the sanctuary’s agritourism enterprise permit.
Township supervisors, at their meeting Monday, declined to weigh in on the request. The permit was issued by the township in July. The sanctuary, on 18 acres behind the Hughes’ property, cares for about 70 rescued farm animals and is open to visitors. It is operated by Sarah Salluzzo and Jonina Turzi. ....

Visitor tours at Lancaster County farm animal sanctuary threatened by dispute over shared driveway


Traffic on a narrow lane stretching through farmland has divided neighbors in rural Mount Joy Township, where, as a result, officials have been asked to revoke a permit that allows guests to visit a local animal sanctuary.
If granted, the revocation would threaten ongoing work at Lancaster Farm Sanctuary, a nonprofit organization based on 18 acres along Milton Grove Road, the sanctuary’s executive director, Sarah Salluzzo, said.
Salluzzo said she’s hoping to “amicably resolve” issues stemming from the use of a shared driveway lane.
“It would deeply affect our operations to have our permit revoked,” Salluzzo said.
But, according to Cindi and Ed Hughes, overuse of the shared driveway has already hurt their neighboring operation, a small-scale vegetable farm and educational center called Heritage Creek Farm Camp. ....
