Charitable giving in response to the pandemic has topped $10 billion worldwide and may continue to rise until the crisis is abated and herd immunity is achieved.
Locally, the Board of Leon County Commissioners have funded two rounds of Coronavirus Aid, Relief & Economic Security (CARES) Act funding to help nonprofits keep their doors open, change their service delivery methods, and respond to increased demand for services.
Other community partners such as United Way of the Big Bend, Community Foundation of North Florida, corporate foundations, businesses, and individual philanthropists have responded with various forms of support.
Throughout this process, I have been encouraged by the efforts of public and private funders to ease grant restrictions, increase giving including direct cash aid, and allow grantees more flexibility in how funds are spent.
