The La Jolla Village Merchants Association is making steady progress toward what it calls its “activation event” for Wall Street. Leaning toward a public market/street fair, the group sent a survey to merchants and completed the request-for-proposal process to find a market manager.
Parks & Beaches board seeks barrier extension at Scripps Park belvedere
The La Jolla Parks & Beaches board last week unanimously approved drafting a letter to send to the city of San Diego asking that it extend the fence around one of the belvederes at Scripps Park.
“There is a 3-foot-wide opening on either side of the belvedere that leads people down to the bluff,” said trustee Melinda Merryweather. “What happens is … through the years of people pounding down on either side of that belvedere, it has worn the sand and dirt down. Then people get in front of the belvedere to take pictures of people in the belvedere. It’s a huge safety issue.”

A 29-year-old woman from California was killed in a tragic accident when a suicidal man jumped off a building and landed on her. Surveillance footage obtained by

Taylor Kahle was on a date with another man at a local restaurant. They were seen leaving the bar and crossing the street towards a nearby parking garage. As they walked past, the man jumped and landed directly on top of her.
Bystanders and nearby officers rushed to her aid, but there was nothing they could. Police said that Kahle was killed instantly, while the man, who was not identified, was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The man who was on a date with Kahle was unhurt.
