Staffing shortage results in temp schedule for Lincoln County Communications

With three vacancies, Lincoln County Communications found itself between a rock and hard a place in maintaining a fully staffed work schedule. To alleviate the staff shortage, Teamsters Local 340 and Lincoln County Communications Association reached an agreement with Lincoln County to temporarily modify their work schedules. The agreement calls for a modified schedule until July 2. According to the memorandum of understanding between the county and unions, communications officers will work three 12-hour shifts and one six-hour shift per week. Communications supervisors will work rotating 12-hour shifts of two days on, two days off and three days on. ....

It’s an ongoing struggle for Lincoln County Sheriff Todd Brackett to attract and retain deputies. Brackett explained his hiring dilemma to county commissioners May 3 as one where he has had two to three vacancies for nearly three years. In an effort to fill his department duty roster, Brackett is proposing a hiring incentive plan. Bracket proposed paying up to $16,000 over a three-year period to attract qualified law enforcement officers. His proposal is similar to one used by the Maine State Police and a handful of municipal police departments around Maine. ....

Sheriff's department driving toward hybrid vehicle fleet

For years, hybrid and electric vehicles have been a “green” transportation option. But Lincoln County Sheriff Todd Brackett has found another green purpose for alternative-fueled vehicles – a “green” economical use. At the April 6 county commissioners meeting, Brackett proposed buying a second hybrid vehicle as the longest term economical replacement. Brackett received three bids for a cruiser replacement. In his request for proposals, Brackett sought bids on hybrid vehicles and the standard fuel-injection models. Quirk in Augusta and Darling’s in Bangor provided bids for a 2021 direct fuel injection and hybrid Ford Interceptor Utility cruisers. Quirk’s bid was $36,536 for a hybrid and $33,385 for fuel-injection. Darling’s bid was $32,381 for fuel-injection and $39,605 for a hybrid model. ....
