Once the stomping grounds of Pat Garrett, John Chisum and Billy the Kid, Lincoln is home to some of the most significant Territorial Period structures in the state, many of which are under the protection of New Mexico Historic Sites.

Hollywood’s gone nuts for Billy the Kid again.
In addition to Emilio Estevez and John Fusco’s upcoming “Young Guns” threequel, a new TV series based on the legendary gunslinger William H.Bonney is in the works at EPIX.
Michael Hirst will write and executive produce the series, with Otto Bathurst (“Black Mirror”) directing the first two episodes.
Premiering in 2022, the eight-episode, one-hour season will commence production this June in Calgary, AB, with an eye towards a 2022 premiere on EPIX. ”Billy the Kid” is a co-production between EPIX Studios and MGM International Television Productions, in association with Nordic Entertainment Groups streaming service Viaplay. Bathurst is set to direct the first two episodes. ....

Epix has ordered a series on the famous American outlaw Billy the Kid from “Vikings” and “Tudors” creator Michael Hirst.
Otto Bathurst will direct the first two episodes of the first season, which will be eight episodes in total. Donald De Line of De Line Pictures, Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey of Amblin Television, and Bathurst and Toby Leslie will all executive produce with Hirst.
Billy the Kid, whose real name was William H. Bonney, was one of the most notable cowboys and gunslingers in the American frontier and played a key role in the Lincoln County War of 1878. ....

Billy The Kid, born Henry McCarty and also known as William H. Bonney, was one of the most notorious outlaws of the Old West and is often remembered for how young he was. He was first arrested at the age of 16 which began several years of escapes from the law, robberies and a few murders. He took part in 1878’s Lincoln County War in which he later killed a sheriff and his deputy, two crimes which launched his status as a wanted man even higher. He was shot and killed at the age of 21, though for years afterward rumours circulated Billy had really survived and was in hiding, his legend growing even after death as people claimed they were him or copycatted his crimes. He has become a huge staple of American and Old West mythology with many books, films and television series having been made on his life and reputation ....
