The Rhode Island State Police arrested Lincoln Town Clerk Monique Clauson for unlawful appropriation, over $1,000. Clauson is alleged to have diverted approximately $69,000 of Lincoln Municipal Court funds between 2011 to 2020 for her own use.
LINCOLN – The future of Monique Clauson’s job remains to be seen, according to town officials, after Lincoln’s town clerk was arrested last week after allegedly misappropriating town funds over nine years.
Rhode Island State Police reported last week that Clauson, 55, was arrested for unlawful appropriation of funds over $1,000. Clauson, of Lincoln, is alleged to have diverted approximately $69,000 of municipal court funds between 2011 to 2020 for her own use. ....

The Rhode Island State Police say they have charged Lincoln Town Clerk Monique Clauson with unlawful appropriation, over $1,000.
Clauson, 55, of 1 Cass St., is also the clerk of the municipal court.
According to a news release from Maj. John Alfred, Town Administrator T. Joseph Almond contacted the state police in October about unexplained shortages in accounting of municipal court fine payments.
Investigators determined that Clauson had diverted about $69,000 of municipal court funds for her own use since 2011.
Clauson was arraigned at state police headquarters on Tuesday and released on personal recognizance. ....
