Turns out, that was the easy part to his weekend.
Due to days of multiple travel issues, the 38-year-old runner from Kenya didn’t arrive in Lincoln until 4 a.m. Sunday. He didn’t have time to sleep only time to shower and meditate and barely enough time to pick up his bib number.
But less than 5½ hours after finally getting to his hotel, there was Ekesa making the turn onto the track at Ed Weir Stadium for the final yards of the 44th Lincoln Marathon. He won it in 2 hours, 28 minutes and 16 seconds. ....

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Thousands of people, some from across the world, flocked to Lincoln on Sunday for the 44th annual Lincoln Marathon and Half Marathon.
The race went on in-person this year after it went virtual due to COVID in 2019, making this event extra special.
“Today is outstanding,” Ryan Regnier, the Marathon Director said. “I just think the community, the runners, the city, we just needed this event.”
The Lincoln Marathon and Half Marathon was one of only a handful of other races that are happening this year despite the pandemic. Because of that, this event grabbed international attention. ....

The Lincoln Police Department says to expect traffic and large crowds at the Nebraska football Red-White Spring Game and the Lincoln Marathon.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Last April, the Lincoln Marathon was canceled and the Nebraska football Red–White Spring Game was simulated on a video game.
This year, the two events will take place on the very same weekend. The Lincoln Police Department says they are ready to go for Lincoln’s biggest weekend in over a year.
“It’s not normal that the spring game and the marathon are on the same weekend along with Husker Baseball, which we think will have a large crowd also, but we’re prepared,” LPD Captain Mike Woolman said. ....

The City of Lincoln will provide some accommodations similar to those offered during the regular Husker football season to fans attending the Nebraska spring football game at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 1. To avoid gameday traffic and parking challenges, fans are urged to visit lincoln.ne.gov/closures or use the Waze mobile app.
Parking:
Reserved, pre-paid parking is available for the spring game at City garages designated with “Park & Go” signs. Park & Go cashiers also sell $10 hangtags that permit all-day parking in downtown metered spaces. Visit parkandgo.org to find locations and rates and to reserve parking. Downtown parking meters are enforced Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ....
