Work to major route between Bradford and Leeds 'will reduce bus journey times'

A SCHEME to reduce congestion on one of the main routes between Bradford and Leeds has received a multi-million pound injections of cash.
Work to the A647 Corridor - which runs from Dawsons Corner in Thornbury to the Armley Gyratory in Leeds, will include the creation of new bus priority works that will shave up to six minutes off bus journeys.
At a meeting of West Yorkshire Combined Authority;s Investment Committee last week members agreed to release £14 million funding for the scheme to progress.
In total the works will cost £19.6m - £3.7m more than the original budget. ....

Forcing North to choose between rail schemes could create 'Beeching moment'

LOCAL politicians have expressed anger after a report suggested the North could miss out on much needed rail infrastructure because London schemes were going over budget.
Last month the National Infrastructure Commission released its Rail Needs Assessment, a report that suggested long planned, much needed rail schemes in the North may not go ahead as hoped.
Two big projects are the Leeds leg of HS2, which would create a High Speed Rail link between the region and London, and Northern Powerhouse Rail, a High Speed line that would link the East Coast and West Coast, including a stop in Bradford. ....

Housing allocations for numerous sites on Bradford/Leeds border likely to be scrapped

LEEDS council decision-makers look set to finally scrap long-term plans to allow building to take place on dozens of green belt sites in the district - including many on the Bradford border.
The move, which will see councillors consider a proposal for 37 sites to be removed from Leeds’s Site Allocations Plan, follows a high court ruling earlier this year.
Leeds Council now claims that, upon review, it has enough potential future housing sites so that the green belt areas previously earmarked for development no longer need to be built on. ....
