Tierra Williams advocates for representation, activism through Ferguson Township Supervisor campaign

Tierra Williams moved to State College three years ago with her son and has actively engaged herself in the community since. Now, she is a candidate running for Ferguson Township Supervisor.
Williams has 1,598 votes in the primary election as of May 24 and is running against Lisa Strickland, who currently has 1,650 votes. The primary results will not be finalized until early June, and the general election will be Nov. 2.
Williams ran for the position during the primary elections as part of the joint slate, “Our Communities Can’t Wait.” The campaign includes Penn State student and formerly incarcerated activist Divine Lipscomb, artistic director for FUSE Productions Richard Biever, and Penn State clinical law professor Gopal Balachandran — all of whom ran for State College Borough Council. ....

Progressive Candidates Win Democratic Primary for State College Borough Council

Three progressive, first-time candidates are the apparent winners of the Democratic nominations for State College Borough Council, making them the front-runners for the three seats up for election in November.
Gopal Balachandran (1,663 votes), Divine Lipscomb (1,434) and Richard Biever (1,191) were the top vote-getters among the field of six candidates in Tuesday’s primary election, according to unofficial totals as of Thursday morning.
The trio, who ran together on the Central PA United slate, outpaced current Councilwoman Katherine Yeaple (1,123), current Mayor Ronald Filippelli (933) and former Councilwoman Catherine Dauler (843).
Of the approximately 500 mail ballots still to be adjudicated countywide as of Thursday morning, about 55 are from State College voters, Centre County Board of Commissioners Chair Michael Pipe said. Five military and overseas absentee ballots and fewer than 100 provisional votes countywide also are still left to be counted. ....

As of 12:50 a.m. Wednesday, with all precincts partially reporting, unofficial results of the primary elections show Ezra Nanes leading Jim Leous by a two-to-one margin in the Democratic nomination for State College mayor. There is no Republican on the ballot for the seat. Any write-in candidates will take some time to be counted.
Among the seven cross-filed candidates running for the State College Area School District Board of Directors, it appears Peter Buck, Carline Crevecoeur, Deborah Anderson, Jackie Huff, Michelle Glenn Young, and David Hutchinson will be on the November ballot competing for four spots.

Ferguson Township Opens Long-Planned New Public Works Building

Nearly two decades ago, Ferguson Township officials began discussing the need for a new public works building to replace the existing facility constructed in 1982.
Now, about four years after serious planning began, and a year after construction got underway, the township has a new 14,500-square-foot facility on the campus of its municipal offices at 3147 Research Drive. Construction on the $7.8 million building was substantially completed in February and the department occupied the facility at the end of March.
“The quality of your facilities and equipment directly translates to the quality of services you provide and the quality of life in your community,” Township Manager David Pribulka said during a ribbon cutting event on Tuesday afternoon. “I can confidently say without hesitation that this facility advances our mission, vision and values and will allow us to better serve the residents of Ferguson Township for decades to come.” ....
