Fife Council aim to ensure everyone can eat healthily every day


A STUDY looking at the impact of COVID on Fifers has found worrying evidence of people going some days without food .
Councillors were told contributory factors such as low income and job insecurity, debt and mental health have all got worse during the pandemic and affected locals ability to feed themselves.
Research led by Professor Karen McArdle, from the University of Aberdeen, involved discussions with 154 people in Fife who were in receipt of an emergency grocery box or an emergency hardship payment.
They also spoke to representatives from 35 voluntary groups.
The report to the community and housing services sub-committee said: Researchers found it particularly concerning that there was evidence of people going some days without food and that it was clear from the sample that food insecurity was a fundamental concern and widespread in all areas . ....

Councillors are to investigate the Community Asset Transfer scheme after it was revealed just two applications were approved in five years.
An investigation is to be launched into Fife Council’s policy of selling surplus properties after it was revealed just two public organisations have been granted a buy-out since the scheme was introduced five years ago.
A team is to be set up to scrutinise the local authority’s process after a new report confirmed that there were just two successful transfers out of 67 enquiries since the Community Asset Transfer (CAT) scheme went live in August 2016. ....

Communities deluged by repeated flooding across Fife have been told they will not be eligible for a slice of the recent £150 million committed by the Scottish Government to target hardest hit regions.
Council officers say the new fund, a top up to a £42 million Holyrood commitment already in place, will only be available to cover the increased costs of flood projects that have already been earmarked, and Fife has none. ....
