ANGRY residents have called for action from Wiltshire Police and Wiltshire Council after a swan was covered in a black substance which had contaminated a local pond. They say the pond off Mane Way has been turned from a mini-nature reserve into a local drugs den and is littered with rubbish left behind by youths and adults who frequent the area. Pandemic life is full of struggles for people everywhere but for those less fortunate, the cold winter weather is just one more difficulty to bear. This is why âComfort Coatsâ was conceivedâ and in a small but sincere way. Concerned women from our area (and a few men) collected more than 350 coats in November and December, and delivered the cozy âcomfortâ attire to Annaâs Place in Chester, Community Center at Visitation in Kensington and Hub of Hope (Project Home) in Philadelphia. The ask came through email, cell phone, and texting, and, due to Covid concerns, volunteers and coat collectors only came in contact with each other when coats were delivered. Generous supporters included Coeli Hilferty, who offered her pop up store âPilot and Powellâ in Suburban Square as a drop off location, Joan Hilferty, who helped deliver coats to Anna s Place administrators. Health Minister John Haggie says if no new cases are identified by Christmas Eve, the outbreak in that community will be considered to be over. The only change that will happen on that day will be that visitation at the long-term care unit at the Connaigre Health Centre will revert to pre-cluster arrangements. The update comes after weeks of investigation into the source of the outbreak. Over 900 COVID vaccines administered by the end of the weekend according to Health Minister John Haggie.
