Tropical Storm Elsa began to pull away from the Lower Keys on Tuesday afternoon and headed up the West Coast of Florida, where it is scheduled to make landfall north of Tampa as a Category 1 hurricane on Wednesday morning. The storm did bring gusts of 70 mph wind gusts in Key West and 30-mph wind gusts in Marathon, according to the National Weather Service. As of Tuesday morning, the Lower Keys was experiencing about 2 to 3 inches of rain, with the possibility of 8 inches of rain by the time the storm passes, Rizzo said. Keys Energy Services has been made aware of several customers receiving scam phone calls involving their electric accounts. Within the scam, customers are informed a payment is immediately due on their electric account or they will have their service disconnected for nonpayment. Customers are then pressured to pay by phone using credit or prepaid debit cards to avoid an interruption in service. Well-informed individuals have prevented the fraud from being perpetrated, but all KEYSâ customers are advised to remain vigilant to avoid falling prey to the scam. âIf customers are unsure of the authenticity of a call and need to verify its legitimacy, they should contact KEYS at 305-295-1000 and ask to speak with a customer services representative,â said Lynne Tejeda, KEYSâ general manager and CEO. âAt that time they can check the status of their account and verify their account information.â ....
Keys Energy Services advises its customers that aerial drone inspections of the transmission line throughout Key West and the Lower Keys are scheduled to be conducted daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Wednesday, May 5, weather permitting. KEYS recently awarded a contract to Grays/BHI Energy for transmission pole top repairs for an estimated cost of $2 million. As part of this work the contractor will use aerial drones to inspect the transmission line within KEYSâ service area from Key West to the Seven-Mile Bridge. The use of aerial drones is intended to help save on costs as well as pose less of an inconvenience to the public. ....
