PAGASA: Ipo Dam to release water Sunday noon amid continuous 'habagat' rains

Residents near the banks of Angat River and low-lying communities in Bulacan were asked to be on alert for a possible increase in water level as the Ipo Dam in Norzagaray, Bulacan is scheduled to release water Sunday noon, July 25, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
As of 7 a.m., PAGASA said the dam’s water level was at 100.56 meters and is expected to rise further due to heavy rainfall induced by the southwest monsoon or “habagat.”
“Ipo Dam management will conduct spilling operation at 12 noon with approximate initial discharge of 38 cms (cubic meters per second),” it said in a hydrological dam situationer issued on Sunday. ....

Residents in low-lying areas near the Angat River are advised to be on alert as Ipo Dam in Norzagaray, Bulacan started to release water around Sunday noon, July 25, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
As of Sunday noon, PAGASA said the dam’s water level was at 101.30 meters and is expected to rise further due to heavy rainfall induced by the southwest monsoon or “habagat.”
“Ipo Dam management conducted spilling operation at 12:29 p.m. with approximate discharge of 40.8 cms (cubic meters per second),” PAGASA said in a dam situationer issued at 1 p.m. ....

Residents living in low-lying areas and those near Angat’s riverbanks from Norzagaray, Angat, San Rafael, Bustos, Baliuag, Pulilan, Plaridel, Calumpit, and Hagonoy must be on alert for the possible increase in water level downstream, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council chaired by Governor Daniel R. Fernando advised.
The governor’s advice came after learning that the Ipo Dam Management will conduct a spilling operation at 12 noon with an approximate initial discharge of 38 cms.
As of 7 a.m. Sunday, July 25, the water level of Ipo Dam was at 100.56 meters and is expected to rise due to heavy rainfall. ....

Bustos and Ipo dams discharge excess water; 102 Bulacan villages submerged in floodwaters

Due to continuous downpour, high tide, and the release of excess water from Ipo and Bustos dams, 102 villages in Bulacan submerged in floodwaters, the Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said on Sunday (July 25).
From 6 a.m. to 10:50 a.m., to maintain the water elevation, the Bustos dam gradually released 1.5 meters and 1.5 meters from Radial gates 1 and 2 respectively wherein the total water released was 168 cms. At exactly 12 noon, Ipo dam opened its Gate 1 and initially discharged 38 cms. of water.
As of 11 a.m., the water elevation of Angat Dam was at 186.88 meters (spilling level 212 meters); and Ipo Dam 101.07 meters above the spilling level of 101.00 meters, and Bustos Dam 17.36 meters, above the spilling level of 17 meters. The rising of the dams’ water level was due to the heavy rainfall-induced by Habagat. ....

THREE people perished and five others were injured when monsoon rains enhanced by Typhoon Fabian pounded Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon last week, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Sunday, July 25, 2021.
One was killed when a tree fell on a vehicle along Kennon Road in the Cordillera Administrative Region. Two were hurt in the same incident.
Two persons were killed when they were separately struck by lightning in Ilocos region. ....
