Roach named permanent president of HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital

UMass Memorial Health Care announced that Steve Roach has been officially named the president of UMass Memorial HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital in Leominster after serving as interim president since October 2019.
Roach will continue to serve as president of UMass Memorial Marlborough Hospital as well.
“Steve has been an invaluable leader within the UMass Memorial Health Care system for the past seven years,” said Robert Paulhus Jr., chairman of the Hospital Board of Trustees. “He brings immense experience in health care to the position and has certainly shown his expertise leading HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital through such challenging times as the coronavirus pandemic and recovering from financial losses over the last two years. His work at Marlborough Hospital since 2013 helped stabilize that organization and he has brought that same tenacity for improvement to HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital. UMMS suicide prevention study explores telehealth to improve outcomes, efficiency

A UMass Medical School researcher is leading a new study to evaluate the use of telehealth to improve suicide-related outcomes.
The four-year, $4.4 million National Institute of Mental Health effectiveness-implementation trial, called Telehealth to Improve Prevention of Suicide (TIPS) in emergency departments, focuses on interventions in community or rural hospitals. But these protocols could also be used in any emergency care setting, especially those without readily available mental health specialists.

“Part of the foundation of this work is the observation that most emergency departments don’t really have enough behavioral health clinicians to adequately staff the department at all times,” said principal investigator Edwin Boudreaux, PhD, professor of emergency medicine. ....
