It's been revealed that Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), a swing-district Democrat who was elected in the 2018 blue wave, has a troubling connection to a diversity council in her district promoting Critical Race Theory (CRT).
As the Washington Free Beacon reported on Monday, Rep. Slotkin's "eyes and ears" local liaison for the district, Mona Shand, is listed as a "Board Member at Large" for the Livingston Diversity Council.
According to reporting from the Livingston Post in February 2019, when Shand was given the position:
Mona Shand of Brighton has joined the staff of U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Holly) as the congresswoman’s representative (or “eyes and ears”) in Livingston County. Shand will also represent Slotkin at various community events.

WHMI 93.5 Local News : County Board Omits Democrat From Appointment To Jury Commission

April 29, 2021
By Jon King / jking@whmi.com
The woman who leads local Democrats is calling a vote earlier this week by the all-Republican County Board of Commissioners, “a small, petty decision” when they declined to appoint a Democrat to the bipartisan county jury commission, and instead left the position vacant.
Judy Daubenmier, who chairs the Livingston County Democratic Party, issued a press release (posted below) following Monday’s meeting of the county board in which they approved incumbent Nancy Sauvage, a Democrat, and former commissioner Bill Green, a Republican, to the county jury commission, omitting the name of Democrat Dane Morris, despite the fact that all three had been nominated to the panel by Chief Judge Michael Hatty.

WHMI 93.5 Local News : Vaccine Allocation Reform Resolution Passes County Committee

February 19, 2021
By Mike Kruzman & Jon King / news@whmi.com
Mixed support was shown largely along party lines for a new resolution introduced at the county level requesting the state change how they determine vaccine allocations.
The Board of Commissioners’ General Government and Health and Human Services Committee held a special meeting, Thursday. There they passed a resolution calling upon Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services to retract the newly-implemented Social Vulnerability Index allocation plan and replace it with a more "Scientific Medical Factor Based Plan" for vaccine distribution. In that, senior populations would be weighted more heavily than they are in the SVI. The SVI weighs 15 social-economic factors and is being used to rank Michigan’s 83 counties on how at-risk their populations are. Senior population is 6.25% of the equation. Livingston County rates as the least at-risk, overall, despite having the 11th highest number of seniors.

WHMI 93.5 Local News : Whitmer's Call For "Common Ground" Met By GOP Opposition

January 28, 2021
By Jessica Mathews & Jon King / news@whmi.com
Governor Gretchen Whitmer delivered her third annual State of the State Address Wednesday night, highlighting both successes and challenges still to overcome during the continuing pandemic.
Speaking from her Capitol office, the Democratic Governor said 2020 was a tough year and acknowledged the more than 14,000 lives lost to COVID-19. She noted that over the past year, people confronted historic converging crises – a worldwide pandemic, the recession it caused, a 500-year flooding event, a nationwide call against racial inequity, and a deeply divisive election. Based on the political environment this past year, Whitmer said people might think Republicans and Democrats in Lansing can’t find common ground on much of anything but the reality was that they took real bipartisan action to get things done – noting she signed two balanced, bi-partisan budgets that prioritized public schools, public safety and public health.

WHMI 93.5 Local News : County Considering New Cyber Security Protection

January 6, 2021
Livingston County officials are on the path to changing providers for cyber security enhancements.
The county has been using software from SolarWinds, a third party vendor that managed the servers of multiple federal agencies including the Department of Homeland Security that were hacked last year. The decision to use SolarWinds recently came under the scrutiny of the county’s former Chief Information Officer Rich Malewicz and the Livingston County Democratic Party. County Administrator Nathan Burd and current CIO Kristopher Tobbe have maintained that County data has remained secure, to their best knowledge. That being said, at the County General Government Committee meeting, Tuesday, Tobbe recommended changing to cyber security experts Palo Alto for expanded protection. Tobbe said this change was not the result of recent headlines, and have been on the books since the 2017 planning year and a focus of his efforts since taking over the office 9 months ago.

WHMI 93.5 Local News : Local Democrats Donate Over 12,000 Holiday Meals

December 28, 2020
Livingston County families who are struggling to put food on the table will have a little something extra this holiday season, thanks to the efforts of Livingston County Democrats.
Each year, the Livingston County Democratic Party makes a generous contribution this time of year to Gleaners Community Food Bank, and this year is no exception.
According to a release from the party’s Executive Committee, local Democrats raised $3,433 in monetary donations on top of 65 pounds of donated food. According to Gleaners’ Community Partnership Specialist Emily Hamilton, that will provide 12,156 meals for local residents in-need.
Chair of the Livingston County Democratic Party Judy Daubenmier said “the need this year was so great due to the pandemic,” and she is “grateful that many Democrats responded to their request to help their neighbors during this dark time.”

WHMI 93.5 Local News : Local Dems: Russian Hack May Threaten Livingston County & Local Governments

December 21, 2020
By Jessica Mathews/News@whmi.com
Local Democrats say the computer systems of Livingston County and cities, school districts, and townships may be threatened by a recent cyberattack of key federal agencies by Russian operatives.
A press release from the Livingston County Democratic Party says Livingston County’s servers use the Orion Platform software from SolarWinds - the same third-party software vendor that managed the servers of multiple federal agencies including the Department of Homeland Security that were hacked earlier this year and their systems exposed.
Livingston County’s Information Services department approved SolarWinds last June, despite warnings by its outgoing IT officer that the product was overpriced and had security issues. For example, SolarWinds used a password “solarwinds123” even though security experts routinely warn against using passwords that can be easily guessed. In June, the Board of Commissioners unanimously approved $68,254 for the platform. The release says the potential breach could affect election data, county financial data and 911 Central Dispatch but asserts the potential harm goes far beyond county data. It states that local municipalities use the county’s servers and network for services, meaning data of area school districts, cities, and townships could be at risk.
