End of police officer's assault hearing draws near | Ballina Shire Advocate

Update 4.30pm: A Northern Rivers police officer has walked free from court after being found not guilty of a charge of common assault.
Lismore Local Court began hearing evidence in the case against Senior Constable Michial Luke Greenhalgh, 39, in November last year.
The hearing continued before Magistrate Michael Dakin this week.
The officer pleaded not guilty to a charge of common assault, which the prosecution alleged he committed by way of six of 18 baton strikes he inflicted upon a naked and drug-affected 16-year-old boy in Lateen Lane, Byron Bay in the early hours of January 11, 2018.
Magistrate Michael Dakin has this afternoon dismissed the charge, finding the prosecution had not proved beyond a reasonable doubt Sen-Constable Greenhalgh s actions were not a reasonable use of force. ....

Man denies damaging police station, making threats

A Nimbin man has pleaded not guilty to smashing a police station window and threatening staff inside.
Rodrick Emile Duran, 36, was arrested in early December after he allegedly caused serious damage to a glass panel on the Zadoc St frontage of Lismore Police Station.

Woman fights charges over alleged $66k fraudulent transfers

The woman accused of stealing money from her parents and employer will face Lismore Local Court later this year for a hearing.
Louise Karen Jarrett, 46, is accused of two counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception to which she has pleaded not guilty.
Ms Jarrett is accused of conducting fraudulent withdrawals of two separate Summerland Credit Union accounts in Bangalow on the morning of October 20, 2018.
Police will allege $66,637 was taken between the two alleged offences, and a two-factor authorisation was used for both transactions.
At the previous part-heard hearing, the court heard how Ms Jarrett s father noticed $30,000 dollars missing from his bank account. ....
