Print The Coronado Unified School Board voted 5-0 Tuesday to appeal the revocation of the Coronado High basketball championship title in wake of the controversial tortilla throwing incident last month. The school board’s decision comes amid growing backlash among some Coronado residents to recent sanctions from the California Interscholastic Federation against the Coronado basketball team and to people’s characterization of the tortilla incident as racist. Coronado School Board Trustee Whitney Antrim said she voted to start the appeal process because students shouldn’t have to suffer because of actions by adults who were responsible for the incidents. “Let’s be clear: Those responsible were adults,” Antrim said in a statement. “Adults led students astray. But punitive results for students who suffered from poor leadership seems harsher than warranted. Adults ultimately caused this pain, and it is adults who should face the consequences.” ....
