Sprankle's Market hosting camp out-themed fundraiser Friday for Salvation Army

Sprankle’s Neighborhood Markets will host a Campout for Community fundraiser Friday to raise money for Salvation Army food pantries in Kittanning, Leechburg and Saxonburg municipalities in which Sprankle’s operates locations.
Between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m., 10% of all sales made in any of the stores will be donated to those three food pantries. ....

It is rare that a liberal hater can besmirch, demean and insult as broadly as Al Scovern did in his letter “Loyalty to Trump has gotten Allegheny Valley nowhere” (April 8, TribLIVE). He belittled our beautiful Western Pennsylvania countryside, our former president, our intelligence and our hope in one fell swoop!
Sounds like he’s back in Maine. Good riddance! And shame on the Trib for giving him such a prominent spot at the top of the letter column.

Gilpin supervisors seek volunteer to replace colleague who died last month

Gilpin officials are looking for a township supervisor following the unexpected death last month of Susan Brown.
Brown died March 17 at age 61. She had been appointed to fill a vacancy in 2016 and served as the board’s vice chairwoman from 2018 until her death.
Her term was set to expire in December.
Brown intended to run for reelection to her two-year seat, and also was seeking a four-year seat that will be vacated in January. Her name will remain on the ballot for the May 18 primary, according to Armstrong County elections officials.
In the meantime, the board needs someone to fill Brown’s seat for the remainder of this year. Candidates must be registered voters in Gilpin to serve on the board. ....
