Louisiana Firefighters Retirement System, Baton Rouge, placed Boston Partners on watch for its $127 million active global equity portfolio.
The $2.1 billion pension fund s board at its March 11 meeting placed the manager on watch due to personnel changes in its global equity portfolio manager team, recently released meeting minutes show.
The minutes show investment consultant NEPC recommended placing Boston Partners on watch to monitor the global equity team s transition of responsibilities.
The pension fund has two global equity managers. The other, State Street Global Advisors, manages a $109 million passive portfolio. ....

The State Fire Marshal s Office is mourning the loss of former Marshal Charles Fredieu who died Sunday following a battle with cancer. He was 84.
Fredieu served as Louisiana s State Fire Marshal from 1992 until 1996 under the administration of Edwin Edwards.
According to Fredieu s obituary, He was a prominent labor leader for over 50 years. He retired as Assistant Fire Chief in the Shreveport Fire Department after serving for 34 years and was President of the Louisiana Firefighters Retirement System for 16 years.
Charlie was a champion for the best fire service in Louisiana, said State Fire Marshal H. Butch Browning, In his time as State Fire Marshal, he was a powerful force in fire prevention and arson abatement. I thank him for what he gave us all. ....

Louisiana Firefighters taps BlackRock to run smidcap portfolio
BlackRock to run about $63 million in passive domestic smidcap equities.
The $1.8 billion pension fund s board approved the hiring at its Dec. 10 meeting, recently released meeting minutes show.
The hiring was the result of a reevaluation of the smidcap asset class, which resulted in the reduction of portfolios of current active domestic smidcap equity managers Rothschild & Co. and QMA to $37 million and $25 million, respectively, from $63 million each.
As of Nov. 30, the system s actual allocation to domestic equities was 23.9%; the target is 22.5%.
Investment consultant NEPC assisted.

Louisiana Firefighters Retirement System, Baton Rouge, reduced its allocations to active domestic smidcap equity managers QMA and Rothschild & Co. as it reevaluates the asset class.
The $1.8 billion pension fund s board voted at its Nov. 12 meeting to reduce the managers combined $125 million portfolio by one-third and move the assets to a domestic smidcap equity index fund, recently released meeting minutes show. The manager of the index fund was not disclosed.
Investment consultant NEPC said in an analysis to the board that smidcap equity overall has been in a continuous style cycle that has experienced an ongoing negative impact, meaning underperformance compared to its benchmark, according to the minutes. ....
