Pay rise for front line staff at employee-owned care company based in Highlands

All front line care and support staff with social care provider Highland Home Carers (HHC) are to be paid a minimum of £10 per hour from next month.
The announcement has been hailed as fantastic news by Scotland s Minister for Business, Fair Work and Skills, Jamie Hepburn.
It follows the news that from April, Inverness-based HHC – the biggest employee-owned organisation in Scotland – will also increase its employer’s contribution to the company’s pension scheme. ....

An allegation that High Life Highland (HLH) charged letting fees for the use of Thurso Leisure Centre to implement Covid vaccinations was robustly quashed by the organisation’s chief executive yesterday.
Steve Walsh said he was “disappointed” over “nonsense” claims that emerged from Thurso and other parts of the Highland region over alleged fees and refusal of access to its locations as vaccine centres.
An anonymous source linked to Riverbank practice in Thurso said that the surgery had tried to book the leisure centre to deliver a mass vaccination clinic for Covid-19 but backed out after HLH had tried to demand £465 to cover staffing costs involved in opening the building for a day . ....
