Louisville development: What's happening with Urban Government Center

Underhill s plan includes affordable housing, apartments and retail.
Whatever happens will reshape the block of 800 Barrett Avenue in Paristown Pointe, a small Louisville neighborhood just east of downtown and Smoketown and near the Highlands and Germantown.
The property sits blocks from Kindred Hospital Louisville as well as the Paristown Hall concert venue and Paristown Arts & Entertainment District.
What s the problem?
Underhill Associates was chosen to redevelop the Urban Government Center in late 2020, with a proposal that scored a score of 84.5 out of 110 from the Louisville committee assigned to review plans submitted for the property. At issue in 2021, though, is a significant portion of money needed to follow through. ....

In the first 113 days of 2021, 100 people who had been living on the streets, in shelters and in locations unfit for human habitation moved home.
In the first four months of this year while we worried about COVID-19 and political divisions and a late frost taking the blooms from the trees, 100 people achieved something basic and foundational. One hundred people faced a level of uncertainty that most of us can only guess at, confronted barrier after barrier, sought out a network of support and moved home.
St. John Center has the privilege of being part of these journeys. We connect our guests to jobs and landlords. We address old debts, help them obtain copies of their birth certificates and other identification. But more critically, St. John Center serves as a hub of connection with a wide network of support. Some of the 100 met with the Legal Aid Society at St. John Center to file for Social Security income or to expunge old criminal records. ....
