On Friday April 23rd, 2021, Diana Whitson-Thompson, loving wife and mother of 3, went home to be with the lord. Diana, age 54, was a native and life-long resident of Unicoi County and a member of Unicoi United Methodist Church. Diana was born on February 17th, 1967 to Diane Neas Whitson and Zane Carol Whitson Jr. She was a member of the 1985 graduating class of Unicoi County High School, after which she pursued a bachelorâs degree in political science and German at East Tennessee State University. She then continued her education at ETSU earning a masterâs degree in Education. She then finished her education, earning the title of education specialist in school leadership from Lincoln Memorial University.
ERWIN - Eva âMarieâ Simmons Erwin, age 78, Erwin, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, April 24, 2021. She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and daughter of the late Wilby and Nora Peterson Simmons. Marie worked as an LPN with the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital for over twenty-five years. Her patients and coworkers loved her gentle and caring nature. Marie was equally as dedicated to her job as her family. As a mother, she taught her children the importance of selflessly loving and caring for others. As a grandmother, she enjoyed teaching her granddaughters how to cook her favorite recipes and sharing her love of gardening, all while watching womenâs basketball games on tv.
ERWIN - Carolyn E. Cash, age 77, Erwin, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2021 at the Unicoi County Hospital. She was a lifelong resident of Erwin and the daughter of the late Franklin and Catherine Bartley Cash. Carolyn retired from NN Ball and Roller after many years of service. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She loved animals and bowling. When she was younger, she enjoyed traveling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Leroy Cash. Carolyn leaves behind to cherish her memory, one nephew, Thomas R. Cash and wife, Jessi; two great nephews: Morgan and Bailey; her best friend, Sue Collins.
ERWIN - Charles David Peake, age 77, Erwin, passed away after a brief illness Friday, January 22, 2021 at Mountain Home VA Medical Center. He was a native of Unicoi County, and lived all his life in Erwin. Charles was a son of the late Sam C. and Vernia M. Howell Peake. Charles retired from Nuclear Fuel Services. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Bible Independent Church where he taught Sunday School in Johnson City. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of forty-nine years Phyllis Ann White Peake, three brothers: James Peake, Clyde Peake and Sam Peake, Jr.; two sisters: Tina Musselman and Marie Shelton.

ERWIN - Eula Kate âMammyâ Rice, age 82, Erwin, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was a life-long resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Jim and Ada Broomer Crawford. Eula Kate was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed helping others and was always friendly to everyone she met. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters. Eula Kate leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of sixty-five years, Homer Rice, one son, Billy Joe Rice (Susie), one daughter, Reta Faye Crumley, one granddaughter, Kathy Jo Farmer, one grandson, Brandon Joe Rice, one great granddaughter, three great grandsons, several nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.
