Police are investigating an armed confrontation between a motorist who pulled a handgun and at least two pedestrians dressed in black and armed with what appear to be assault rifles that erupted Thursday in the middle of a residential street in North Portland.
It’s unclear what started the standoff, but videos circulating on social media show the resulting confrontation between people in a crowd and the motorist, Joseph Hall, who remains hospitalized. ....

Portland police shot and killed a man Friday morning in Lents Park after responding to reports of person with a gun, the bureau said.
Officers responded around 9:30 a.m. and confronted the man, police said. Officers fired a “less lethal” 40 millimeter projectile at the man before one officer shot the man with a firearm, Assistant Police Chief Chris Davis said at an afternoon news conference.
Officers on the scene called emergency medics, but the man died by the park’s ball field off Southeast 92nd Avenue. Police said the officer who fired the fatal shot was an 8-year veteran of the department assigned to the East Precinct, but the bureau did not release the officer’s name. ....
