US Air Force signs research contract for 'Bell's High Speed VTOL' | News

The US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) has contracted Bell to research a high-speed vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft.
The laboratory granted Bell a $950,000 contract to conduct applied research into the concept, it disclosed in an online notice posted on 28 April.

Bell acknowledged the contract, but declined to comment further. The AFRL did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
Little else was disclosed in the contract notice titled “Bell’s High Speed VTOL (HSVTOL)”. ....

WASHINGTON Progress is being made, but, there s still a long way to go, when it comes to attracting more women into America s 7,000-member special operations forces.
The Special Operations Command s diversity and inclusion plan states: All of us understand diversity and inclusion are operational imperatives.
On Wednesday, members from the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities wanted to know how that mission was going.

The Air Force’s Special Operations Command (AFSOC) is trying to convince Congress to approve its much-needed “Armed Overwatch” aircraft in the 2022 budget.
When speaking to the news media earlier this week, Lieutenant-General James Slife, the commander of AFSOC, said that this program is not a rehash of the earlier Air Force light attack program, but a response to the need for a much more versatile aircraft platform that AFSOC is looking for.
“I think SOCOM [Special Operations Command] envisions this as more of a multirole platform that can perform level delivery of precision munitions,” Slife said. “The first step really is getting to a flying demonstration, which we anticipate is going to take place in the coming months.” ....

The US Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) aims to consolidate multiple aircraft roles into its Armed Overwatch aircraft programme in order to save money on the War on Terror.
AFSOC is stretched thin as it tries to keep up the fight against terrorist groups while also preparing for possible conflict against Russia and China. It sees Armed Overwatch aircraft as capable of taking over the jobs of several specialised platforms, such as manned intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft, fighters, bombers and gunships.
