The man whose teenage son was charged with trying to commit a school shooting in February 2019 has died, and his widow’s case is pending.
Dale Owen, charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, died Dec. 5 at age 64 after a short hospitalization, according to a notice his attorney filed with the 13th Judicial District Court. No cause of death was given.
His widow, Tamara Owen, now 49, still faces the same charge, a fourth-degree felony.
Joshua Owen, then 16, brought his parents’ handgun to Cleveland High School on Valentine’s Day 2019 and tried to shoot fellow students, according to Rio Rancho Police. The gun malfunctioned, and Owen ran away without hurting anyone before being arrested, according to police. ....

After serving 20 years â five terms â in office, Lemuel Martinez, a Democrat, no longer holds the title of district attorney. His decision not to run for a sixth term, essentially retiring from public office, led to his deputy district attorney, Barbara Romo, also a Democrat, winning the seat. She took office on Jan. 1.
Martinezâs decision to retire from a position he held for two decades was simple â 20 years is long enough.
âTwenty years in office is long enough to complete the things I wanted to do,â Martinez said. âI think itâs time for another person to take over the DAâs office.â ....

Romo elected as district attorney

It was a nail biter of a race but the election of a new 13th Judicial District Attorney has been completed.
When voting stopped at 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, Republican Joshua Jimenez was ahead of Democrat Barbara Romo by 1,041 votes. The gap narrowed to 269 votes as provisional ballots and overseas votes were tallied, and by Nov. 10, the race had shifted in favor of Romo, ahead by only 59 votes.
Because the totals were within a half a percentage point, the race was subject to an automatic recount under state law. The three counties in the 13th Judicial District â Valencia, Cibola and Sandoval â canvassed the results two weeks after the election, and Romo retained her lead by 136 votes. The three counties recounted the DAs race from Dec. 1-3, and the results were canvassed and certified by the state Thursday, Dec. 10. ....
