Masiane Nthina made her way nervously from the kit room to the slopes. Shuffling with skis on her feet for the first time is not easy.
Nthina, an intern at the Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation,
lives close to Afriski Mountain Resort, but had never visited it. She had always viewed the resort as the preserve of the elite and thought that on her meagre wages she could not afford to go.
âI used to see the resort on social media and would even pass by on my way to Mokhotlong, but had never visited Afriski,â she says. âItâs a wonderful experience and I would do this again without a second thought, given an opportunity.â ....

POOR product development and inadequate financial investment are hampering the growth of Lesotho’s tourism sector, Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro has said.
He said this while addressing a recent webinar on reviving Lesotho’s tourism and hospitality sector after the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. The webinar was organised by the government in partnership with the World Bank, the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).
The seminar deliberated on the challenges, opportunities and priority reforms needed to revive and revitalise Lesotho’s tourism and hospitality sector. ....

MASERU – THE Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC) has contracted two Basotho-owned companies to run ’Maletsunyane Falls and Butha-Buthe Visitors Comfort Facilities (VCF).
’Maletsunyane Ventures, run by a local businessman Bokang Kheekhe, will manage the VCF for the ’Maletsunyane Falls.
Southern Express, run by Motlatsi Russel, will manage the Butha-Buthe VCF.
’Maletsunyane Ventures is expected to rejuvenate tourist facilities near the 192-metre-high ’Maletsunyane Falls.
The waterfall, located near the town of Semonkong, falls from a ledge of Triassic-Jurassic basalt and the plunging water creates a reverberating echo when it contacts the basin of the falls. ....
