A brave shop worker locked herself inside a store to protect the public from a knife-wielding alcoholic who threatened “I’m going to stab somebody”.
The McColl’s worker was confronted by a drunken Leslie Wilkinson, 52, in April this year who was standing at the door of the Bridlington shop holding a knife.
“Frightened” and “on edge”, the employee tried to reason with Wilkinson bringing him into the store and locking them both inside, protecting a young boy who tried to enter the store just seconds later. ....

Art walk returns Saturday

The first Second Saturday Art Walk of 2021 is planned from 3 to 5 p.m. May 8 at five venues in downtown Brookings.
Venues participating include Manley Art Center, Brian Scott and Signatures galleries, Semi Aquatic Gallery, Whimsical Griffin and Ambiance by the Sea. All venues are within two blocks of Chetco Avenue between Oak and Center streets. Masks and social distancing are required inside the buildings. The art walk will be canceled in the event of a lockdown. All venues are open for business and welcome spectators during normal operating hours.
Leslie Wilkinson is the featured artist for the month at Pelican Bay Arts Associationâs (PBAA) Manley Art Center, 433 Oak St. Her show is titled âLayers: An Exploration of Alternative Process Photography and Paper Collage Embracing the Japanese Concept ofÂ Wabi-sabi.â ....

Graduates wanted for Wheatley housing group scheme

Wheatley Group, which includes Glasgow Housing Association (GHA), wants 10 people for its two-year Ignite scheme.
Graduates will work across Wheatley’s social housing and property-management subsidiaries, including GHA in Glasgow, Dunedin Canmore and West Lothian Housing Partnership in the east and Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership in the south.
Lesley Wilkinson, Wheatley director of employee relations, said: “Our housing graduates will play a vital role in the heart of Wheatley communities, making a real difference to people’s lives.”
Laura MacLean, 29, joined the graduate scheme last year after gaining a PhD in Architecture and Urban Planning.
She said: “The Ignite scheme has provided a setting for me to develop personally and professionally and to form a career I can be proud of.” ....

A mother who attacked police officers arresting her son has been jailed for three months at Lincoln Crown Court.
Lesley Wilkinson, 45, of High Street, Blyton, near Gainsborough, punched one officer in the face and then kicked him in the groin.
She went on to kick a second officer in the head during the incident at her home in the village of Blyton.
Eunice Opare-Addo, prosecuting, said that officers went to the family home in December 2019 as part of an investigation into an incident that occurred earlier in the day. ....
