MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A President’s Day storm delivered several inches of sleet and snow in the Memphis area with higher accumulations in surrounding communities. The latest updates from the WMC Action News 5 newsroom:

9 p.m.: The Office of Emergency Management reports the Hollywood Community Center and Ruth Tate Senior Center have 110 residents. For transportation to a warning center, call the Office of Emergency Management at (901) 297-1680. Public Works crews will continue operating salt/sand trucks for at least the next 72 hours, according to the City of Memphis. The city is contracting for six additional snowplows, bringing the total to 14 along with 16 sand trucks and six brine units. ....

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - In a year with a lot of change, many Shelby County Municipal School districts will remain the same in the start of 2021.
Collierville Schools Superintendent Dr. Gary Lilly stated that the district will be continuing in-person learning for elementary and middle school students. They hoped to bring all high school students back too, but decided to continuing the hybrid model.
“Then we’ll see what happens as we get toward the end of January. Possibly, if there is a spike in cases due to the holidays, then maybe that will give it an opportunity to subside,” he explained. ....

LAKELAND, Tenn. (WMC) - The Lakeland School System has made some changes to the instructional calendar.
School leaders hope the additional time out of school will reduce the spread of coronavirus. Students will return to school from winter break on Thursday, January 7 instead of Monday, January 4.
Lakeland school officials said scheduled extracurricular activities can proceed at the discretion of sponsors.
If parents of Lakeland students have concerns about their child’s symptoms or possible exposure to COVID-19, email the Coordinated School Health Supervisor, Susan Rice Noah, at srice@lakelandk12.org. ....
