If you’re planning on going hiking, hunting or scouting this spring, summer and fall in Wyoming, make sure you keep your eyes peeled for signage that tells you where grizzly bears will be captured and collared. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) is conducting population monitoring within the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem during the next few months, primarily in the northwest portion of the state.
Grizzly bears will be trapped, collared and released on site while being “monitored in accordance with strict guidelines” compiled by WGFD and the Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team. All areas where trapping is occurring will be clearly marked at major access points to keep the public away from these areas, according to the agency. ....

Game and Fish proposes reduction in antelope license quotas for 2021 season

In many hunt areas in the Lander Region, the proposals to cut the quota are due to impacts from the harsh winter conditions in 2018-19 and 2019-20 which was followed by persistent drought conditions in the Region through early March 2021.

“Across the Lander Region, from Rawlins to Shoshoni, Riverton and Lander, pronghorn numbers have declined, most herds are below objective and doe/fawn ratios are low – some as low as they have ever been,” said Daryl Lutz, Lander Region wildlife coordinator.
“Most of the cuts in license quotas are doe/fawn licenses. Throughout most of the Region, we were able to maintain the ‘any’ antelope licenses because observed buck/doe ratios were appropriate to do so. Assuming we see good fawn production and survival over the next couple of years, we expect antelope numbers to stabilize and increase to the point where we can reinstitute or raise doe/fawn license quotas again.” ....

Wyoming black bear bait site renewal | Outdoor News Daily

Wyoming black bear bait site renewal
Cheyenne – The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will open black bear bait site renewals beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, March 1. The renewal process may be completed online, in person or by phone, mail or fax, with the subsequent application for registering new bait sites taking place online.
The shift to an online application process is an improvement recently authorized by the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission at their January meeting based on the department’s recommendation and public feedback .
“Last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Game and Fish Commision, through an emergency rule, moved the black bear bait site registration system from in-person to online. We received an overwhelmingly positive response to that shift, so the Commission made that a permanent system to better serve hunters,” said Jason Hunter, Game and Fish Lander Region wildlife supervisor. ....
