“Sir, this is a Wendy’s.” The meme seems appropriate for the latest alligator encounter in Florida, as a six-foot gator ambled into a Wendy’s parking lot in Lehigh Acres and chased several pedestrians before authorities got it under control.
You just want a burger, but you almost become one; that’s a tough trip to a fast-food restaurant. Luckily, the gator didn’t catch anyone and no one was injured before the Lee County Sheriff’s Department arrived with the Lehigh Acres Fire Control and wrestled it to the ground, and transported it away.
The sheriff’s office tweeted several pictures of the encounter, saying the gator “may have just been ‘hangry’ for a cheeseburger.” The alligator was relocated to a farm in LaBelle, Florida; most likely, it was just trying to move from one body of water to another when it found itself moving into the drive-thru instead.

Police in a Florida town wrangled what they call a "hangry" alligator to safety after it was found chasing people in a Wendy's parking lot.
The 1.8-metre-long alligator was found at the parking lot on Monday in Lehigh Acres, Fla. After wrangling the gator, sheriff's deputies and members of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission safely relocated it away from the parking lot.
Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno joked on Twitter that the alligator "may have just been 'hangry' for a cheeseburger."

A "hangry" alligator was captured in southwest Florida after chasing people through a Wendy's parking lot, deputies said.
Lee County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to the Wendy's on Lee Boulevard in Lehigh Acres on Monday afternoon after the 6-foot gator was spotted harassing unsuspecting customers -- and maybe even scaring some away.
"He may have just been 'hangry' for a cheeseburger, but he gave many quite the scare," according to a tweet on the Lee County Sheriff's Office official Twitter page.

Lehigh Fire District hosts Wildfire Community Preparedness Day

The threat of wildfire is increasingly prevalent and is so posing greater risk to people and property.
To help keep residents informed, the Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District helped promote the National Fire Protection Association and State Farm’s eighth annual Wildfire Community Preparedness Day with a virtual event held Saturday.
The May 1 event focused on what steps homeowners can take to help protect their property from wildfire.
During Prep Day families in the community were asked to do their part to protect their families and the community by eliminating vulnerabilities in the Home Ignition Zone — the immediate 5-foot zone around each residence.
