The District Attorney’s Office charged Victor Angel Hernandez, 23, with two counts of felony arson of an inhabited structure or property on Via Del Cielo (related to the Loma Fire) and on Loma Alta Drive (a charge stemming from an incident on June 14, 2020), and a felony count of attempt to burn for allegedly attempting to set a fire and burn a structure in the area of McKinley Elementary School between M ....

Santa Barbara City Council votes in favor of bridge housing for people experiencing homelessness


City votes in favor of bridge housing program for people living in fire prone encampments

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.-Santa Barbara City Council members voted unanimously to approve the use of an unnamed hotel to provide temporary safe shelter and to begin cleanup of fire prone encampments.
The city council members heard about a dozen public comments in support of the the plan although some criticized the timeline. A couple speakers believe the city is motivated by the recent Loma Fire that impacted people with housing rather than the homeless crisis.
The fire was apparently sparked by in a homeless person on private property. ....
