The legislation supports Whitmer’s
COVID-19 recovery plan, including a $2.25 per hour wage increase for direct care workers, $283 million in federal emergency rental assistance, up to $110 million for vaccine administration and up to $555 million for testing and tracing, state officials said.
“I think it’s great news that we’ve been able to get some of the federal funding available to us appropriated, including passing two of my key proposals to provide a wage increase for direct care workers and increased funding to help expand vaccinations for Michiganders who are 50 years old or older,” Whitmer said. “However, the reality is that there is more work to be done and there are still billions of dollars in federal funding that we need to get ....

Lansing Meadows PDA reverts back to square one

On March 1, the Village of Lansing Board of Trustees held public hearings on several local laws. Approximately ten community members were in attendance.
There was supposed to be a public hearing on an amendment to change the lot dimensions and protect the greenspace at the Lansing Meadows project Planned Development Area (PDA). The subject of increasing the lot size and adding subdivisions has been a source of controversy over the past few months. Trustee Ronny Hardaway has continually expressed a desire for more greenspace, as originally planned in the PDA.
Discussion on this topic was delayed at two previous meetings in January because project developer Eric Goetzmann was unable to attend in-person. It was decided at a trustee meeting on Feb. 1 that a public hearing would be held at the March 1 meeting. However, in a letter sent to the Board of Trustees, prior to the March 1 meeting, Goetzmann asked to withdraw his request to modify the district regulations.  ....

4 police vehicles damaged chasing child carjackers from Chicago to Merrillville, police say

MERRILLVILLE — A scene like something out of The Blues Brothers played out Saturday night as Illinois State Police, along with Northwest Indiana police officers, pursued a vehicle carjacked near the Eisenhower Expressway in Chicago some 45 miles to Merrillville.
The stolen 2011 silver Hyundai Elantra eventually crashed in the median of U.S. 30, just west of Merrillville Road.
Inside, police found a 15-year-old girl behind the wheel, along with 15-year-old and 13-year-old male passengers — all from Chicago.
Editor Marc Chase interviews Hailee Hicks, part of the Hoosiers We ve Lost project.
Illinois State Police said the children were treated for minor injuries and later released into the custody of a guardian. ....
