Proposed Lansing school budget features tax rate dip

While the Lansing Central School District is expected to exceed the tax cap of 3.6 percent with its 4.31 percent increase in the property tax levy for the 2021â2022 academic year, the district administration says its residents should see their bills decrease for the upcoming year, barring one exception.
Between the 2020â2021 and 2021â2022 academic years, both the districtâs tax levy and PILOTâs (payments in lieu of taxes) are expected to increase with the former increasing by 4.31 percent ($879,182, from about $20.4 million to about $21.2 million) and the latter increasing by 9.32 percent ($26,176, from about $281,000 to about $307,000).Â
Overall, the districtâs total assessments are projected to increase by 4.78 percent (about $46.7 million) from about $977,901,268 to $1,024,597,750. Because of this increase in total assessed values, the tax rate is anticipated to decrease by 0.37 percent ($21.116 to $21.037 per thousand), though business ....

In-person to return on Jan. 11 at Lansing School District

Superintendent Chris Pettograsso delivered a virtual update to the public on the status of the Lansing Central School District on Dec. 14, outlining the districtâs plans for instruction over the next several weeks.
Prior to that, Pettograsso discussed the general health of those in the district, breaking down the number of cases per school. As of Monday, there are six positive cases of COVID-19 at the elementary school â four faculty/staff, two students â with two more tests pending for a pair of students. The middle school just has one faculty/staff with a positive test and none among students, though three students are still waiting for the results of their tests. No faculty/staff at the high school are currently positive, but there are three active cases and three pending tests among the student body.
